A Mechanical Perspective of Common Hoof Pathologies- Diagnostics and Treatment Options

We will delve into some of the common hoof pathologies that we encounter regularly.  Emphasis will be placed on how these issues affect the structures mechanically and what can be done to lessen some of those mechanical forces to provide a better healing environment.  The lecture will outline a biomechanical overview and ten look into diagnostic and imaging on the common foot pathologies and take you through some horseshoe/orthotic-based treatment options highlighting the mechanical benefits of each.  The wet lab will use a team approach to work through a "case" using cadaver limbs.  Diagnostic imaging will be used extensively and a treatment plan will be developed and implemented using various shoes and materials to alter the biomechanics of that particular case in order to set it up for a successful outcome.
